Deut 30:14   No, the word is very near you; it is in your mouth and in your heart so you may obey it.

Moses brings God's word to Israel and in verse 11 says, “Now what I am commanding you today is not too difficult for you or beyond your reach.” Now he says the word is as close to them as can be. They had heard it and speak it out as it settles in their heart. Many centuries later the apostle Paul was to apply this same word: “The word is near you; it is in your mouth and in your heart," that is, the word of faith we are proclaiming: That if you confess with your mouth, "Jesus is Lord," and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved" (Rom 10:8,9)

God's word is no longer a mystery, something only to be obtained by mystical rites as the Gnostics said. No, it was a word that had come through Jesus and his Holy Spirit. The Gospel was now quite clear. As people hear the Gospel, the word of God spoken, so they receive it in their hearts and they believe. When they speak it out they are confirming it, that it is for them. It is quite simple. It is easy to understand when you come to God seeking His help and He gives us His Holy Spirit. The Spirit within us witnesses to this truth and belief bursts forth within us and before we know it we are speaking it out. You can't get the word any closer.

Do we read God's word, take it in, let the Holy Spirit apply it to us, and do we speak it out – declare it? If we do these things we will find it will have a transforming effect within us. Hallelujah!
