Acts 9:11 The Lord told him, "Go to the house of Judas on Straight Street and ask for a man from Tarsus named Saul, for he is praying.
This is God speaking to a man named Ananias. Not the Ananias of Acts 5, because he had died. This is an otherwise unknown Christian living in Damascus. When God speaks to him one day, it is like he has a grenade without the pin in, dropped into his lap. This is a horrendous word as far as this little unknown believer is concerned. It basically says, go and find the man known as Saul of Tarsus. The only problem with that, was that Saul was known to be a powerful anti-Christian and when he had left Jerusalem he had left with letters to the Jewish leaders in Damascus requiring them to assist Saul and help him arrest any of this new sect of believers in Jesus of Nazareth, and have them thrown into prison for sedition and blasphemy.
This was like saying to Ananias, I know you're a Christian but go and see the man who has the power to arrest you for being a Christian. Ananias was quick to point this out to the Lord but all the reassurance he got was the equivalent of, “It's OK, he's going to serve me.” Note not, it's all right, he's now one of mine. Thus Ananias has to set out in obedience to God's word without knowing the full details or knowing where it would lead to. That's how it is with the Lord. We sometimes have to step out without fully understanding what He is saying. He gives us just sufficient to get us under way, but after the first step or so, we don't know where it will lead. God knows best. This is faith. You can trust Him.
