Eph 6:10 Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. We've commented on it before: although these verses are chosen randomly, there are often direct links between them. Yesterday we found ourselves with the recognition that life is a battle and we quoted from Eph 6:12 as we identified the source of the battle, our enemy. In that same passage, we now see Paul's shorthand for what we were saying yesterday about David: let your overcoming be from the Lord. Having said that, this verse today has a slightly different emphasis to it. Yesterday it was, let the Lord do what He does best, which is overcome and deal with our enemies. Now there is the recognition that while He does that we are still in the midst of it and we have a part to play. A few verses on Paul says, “Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand. Stand firm then.” (v.13,14). While God is dealing with our enemies, our role is to hold the holy position that is ours as children of God. Satan seeks to undermine us and make us act like people of the world. We, however are to be strong in the strength that the Lord's presence gives us and in that strength resist the temptation to fight like everyone else fights! His mighty power dwells within us and we are to realise that, experience it and hold to the holy ground that is ours. We are to remain the gracious, loving and gentle children of God that we have been called to be. It's His grace within us that enables us to be like this and not be like those who oppose us. Hallelujah!
