Daily Thoughts : May 29th |
Mark 13:11 do not worry beforehand about what to say. Just say whatever is given you at the time, for it is not you speaking, but the Holy Spirit.
These were Jesus' words of reassurance to his disciples when he was warning them of coming persecutions. If we know the future is likely to be tough, we worry. If they arrest me, what will I say? Don't worry, says Jesus the Holy Spirit will give you the words when it comes to it.
God provides for us in so many ways and this is just one of them. Does it apply to only coping with persecution? No it applies to any situation where we allow Jesus to lead us. Some of us get tongue tied in front of imposing people, and such people may be employers or anyone we may have to look up. What should I say? It's a common worry, but Jesus is concerned about every area of our lives. Have you ever thought that when we pray, “Give us today our daily bread” in the Lord's Prayer, it means anything we need today to get by? If you need words, the right words to speak to someone who is forbidding, then why should this be not something you ask His help with?
Moses claimed, “I have never been eloquent, neither in the past nor since you have spoken to your servant. I am slow of speech and tongue," (Exo 4:10) yet he learned to let the Lord give him the words to be passed on. The Lord knows what to say. Ask Him to give you the words that you will need today. |
