Psa 41:1 "Blessed is he who has regard for the weak"
The Lord promises blessing, goodness from heaven, for whoever cares for the weak? Do I think about those who are weak? Who are the weak? They are any who lack strength, who feel frail, who have been broken – and the Lord cares for them! Doesn't He care for everyone? Yes, but some particularly seem to come to His attention. The weak are vulnerable: “the wicked man hunts down the weak” (Psa 10:2).
So why should I care for the weak? To protect them because they cannot protect themselves: “Rescue the weak and needy; deliver them from the hand of the wicked.” (Psa 82:4).
Paul was able to testify, “In everything I did, I showed you that by this kind of hard work we must help the weak, remembering the words the Lord Jesus himself said: `It is more blessed to give than to receive.” (Acts 20:35) I need to care for the weak because I too can be weak: “you are weak in your natural selves.” (Rom 6:19). Naturally, I am so vulnerable. It only takes a bad cold to bring me down! It only needs things to go badly for me to feel frail. It is only by God's grace that I can be strong, therefore I must be there to help others who are weak at this time. I am part of a ‘weak community', the people of the earth who, in reality, are so frail. God cares for us and He calls us to care for one another, the weak caring for the weak! |
