Titus 1:16 They claim to know God, but by their actions they deny him.
A lot of people claim to be a lot of things that they are not, but perhaps, for those of us actually in the kingdom of God, one of the saddest things is to see people who purport to be Christians but are clearly not. The person who goes to church each Sunday morning and performs the ritual, but for whom anything more is merely words, are sadly missing out on the staggering wonder of the possibilities of actually knowing the one they are supposedly worshipping.
But I wonder how often I deny God by my actions? Jesus, in the letters to the seven churches in Revelation, says a number of times, “I know your deeds” and it is by our deeds that he assesses us. When I have a crisis, is my first thought to turn to him, because if I don't I am denying his reality in my life. Do I say I am a Christian but in reality show very little signs of it beyond ‘being nice'?
Jesus said we would do the same sort of things that he did (Jn 14:12) but everything he did needed the supernatural power of heaven behind it. I can preach or teach but without heaven's power behind it, they are just words. I can be nice to people but without the supernatural power of heaven behind it they will remain unchanged. Will I say I am a Christian and yet fail to seek God for the power to impact and change this world? These are very real things and reveal the reality of who I am.
