Mic 2:12,13 "I will surely gather all of you, O Jacob; I will surely bring together the remnant of Israel . I will bring them together like sheep in a pen, like a flock in its pasture; the place will throng with people. One who breaks open the way will go up before them; they will break through the gate and go out. Their king will pass through before them, the LORD at their head."
This is one of the less known Messianic prophecies. It speaks first, very simply of God bringing together His people. That bit is quite straight forward, but then it speaks of one who will break open the way before God's people, a king, the LORD at their head. Now it's that last bit that separates this out from ordinary prophecy. The one who goes before God's people will be a king, but this king is in fact the “I AM”, the Lord Himself. That is what marks this out as different.
God is going to come as a ruler in the midst of His people and will shepherd His people and break through their ordinary world and lead them out in a new way. Note what it says. God will bring them together as in a pen (Israel in their land but penned in by the Romans?) but then the Coming One will break through the gate that holds them and release them out into the world. Is that not exactly what Jesus did. He came and, by his death on the Cross and the sending of his Spirit, released all who would follow them into a new life of freedom so that outward circumstances no longer mattered. Wherever you are, you are free because he has made you so! Don't let the circumstances limit you!
