Isa 16:5   In love a throne will be established; in faithfulness a man will sit on it-- one from the house of David-- one who in judging seeks justice and speeds the cause of righteousness.

       

Throughout the Old Testament, there were glimmers of a Coming One, one who God would send to His people. It was, of course, the Lord's thoughts breaking through in the midst of His words through His prophets. It's as if in the back of His mind constantly was the plan that the Godhead had formulated from before the foundation of the world – for Jesus to come and bring salvation.

 

Here it was Isaiah who caught just a glimpse of the divine plan. It was the love of God for mankind that provoked this plan, and through this plan a new kingdom on earth would be established whereby a new king would rule over a new people. Because this One has faithfully adhered to the plan of God and seen it through he will reign over this new people. He will be one who, naturally at least, will appear to come from the royal line of David. This one as he judges his people will bring justice to the earth and bring in a reign of righteousness but it will be first and foremost because he makes his people righteous by removing from them all guilt and shame because he himself will take their punishment. He himself will bring about justice for he himself will ensure that their sin is dealt with. And once they have been declared righteous, they will live righteous lives for he will live in their midst by his Spirit and he will guide them, energise them and lead them in a new life. Live it!
