Isa 8:19 When men tell you to consult mediums and spiritists, who whisper and mutter, should not a people inquire of their God? Why consult the dead on behalf of the living?
The Bible covers all sorts of aspects of life. Guidance is an important issue for most of us, even if we don't think it ‘out loud'. What should I do, is a regular issue. When looking for reassurance, reassurance over love ones who have died is a common issue. It is at such times that people resort to bad ways of getting guidance or getting reassurance. Using occult means (and occult simply means ‘hidden powers') is not a legitimate way of getting guidance or reassurance.
Thus Isaiah's warning is one that comes a number of times in Scripture. You are NOT to go using occult means of receiving guidance or reassurance. Why not? Well apart from the fact that God says not, it is also a sign of your godless attitude which needs changing. If you go to a medium, it is a sign you have not gone to God, you have not put your reliance in God, you couldn't be bothered to seek God and ask Him!
That is the crucial issue here. When you need guidance or reassurance, will you use some ‘mechanical' means, some way in the hands of people, or will you trust in God and go to Him for help. Yes, there is a spirit world, but the Bible is quite clear that the only Spirit you are to turn to is the Holy Spirit – God Himself. God delights in giving guidance and assurance. Turn to Him. Trust in Him, and only Him!
